Hello!
During our visit to the US we%26#39;re going to rent a car for two weeks. My impression reading in the forum is that renting a car outside of NY will be the cheapest option. Do you have any suggestions with regards to a pick-up point? We%26#39;re going to stay for 4 nights in NY before we%26#39;re renting the car, so it would be nice if it%26#39;s easily reached from Manhattan.
The second, and most important question, is where we should drive. We%26#39;d like to get somewhere were we can stay a couple of days on the beach. It would also be nice if we drove through some hiking areas, as we both like scenic walks in the nature. If there are some shopping opportunities along the way, that would be great as well (clothing/electronics).
We%26#39;re thinking of spending a night at a spa hotel. Would be nice if there%26#39;s a decent one along the route :)
I%26#39;m hoping it won%26#39;t be necessary to drive more than 3 hours a day on average. One or two ';driving days'; don%26#39;t matter though.
Hopefully I%26#39;ve written enough to give you some ideas. It%26#39;s my first time to the US so I don%26#39;t really know what to see and where to drive. If you need any more info don%26#39;t hesitate to ask!
Best regards,
Mads

What time of year are you planning to visit? That will be very important when it comes to suggesting beach and hiking areas.

Oh sorry about that! We%26#39;re going there in the middle of June.
I very much hope you mean you will be coming in June of 2009! Please don%26#39;t say you will be arriving in a few short weeks!
In a few weeks ;)
If you are serious about arriving in a few weeks, you are in trouble. Do you even have a reservation for a place to stay in Manhattan?
The days in NY are covered :) I understand it%26#39;s not the ideal way to plan a vacation, but sometimes you have to make do with what you got.
At least your covered for NYC; that is good.
I would suggest you start posting to other forums for your other questions.
Here is one thought for hiking:

The Appalachian Trail played a large part in the development of the United States, and provides opportunities for hikers of all skill levels.
There are beaches both to the north and south of New York City, but I am by no means an expert on that topic. That also depends on how far you want to drive. Start using google, and good luck!
Thanks for the hiking tip! Will definately check out that trail. What do you think about renting a car in NY compared to another town? Are there significant price differences?
