New York with a 4/5 yr old

Any tips on taking a 4 nearly five year old to Newyork

New York with a 4/5 yr old

Look for some recent threads/trip reports from people who took their kids there. That would be a good first step.

New York with a 4/5 yr old

The Bronx Zoo where most of the animals run free. The Museum of Natural History which is great, and has a wonderful Planetarium. Central Park zoo also is wonderful and small--penguins, seals, monkeys.

I took my 5 year old last september and did many of the traditional NYC attractions. He loved it!!! I think one of his favorites was the TOTR, he also enjoyed the Staten Island ferry.

Walking everywhere became a bit of a chore for him, but I found if we had many stops with interesting things in between he had a great time!!!

We took our children (all under 10 at the time, including a 5 year old boy) last summer and they all want to go back.

Highlights as mentioned were the :

-Cosmic collisions at the NH museum (5 year old a little nervous - but loved it),

-ES building (we expressed this tour due to time limitations, not sure if I would recommend it without doing that with a small child).

- The Beast tour (this went down well for all- although not if you little one has a problem with getting wet or does not like load music - play %26#39;sweet home Alabama%26#39; reasonably load before you go, if you want to test the waters, so to speak :)

-The Met (Egyptian display a highlight here- there is the instinct to touch displays, security are patient, but just to have that in mind.)

-The CP zoo is great for small children, although if s/he has seen Madagascar do explain that there will not be any lions or zebras - (say that Marty and Alex are still aboard that ship :)

- He loved the horse %26amp; trap around CP.

- just having downtime in a playground in Queens (or CP) - loads more, actually the more I remember, the more I want to go back!

We had bought a number of books geared towards children before the visit (5 year old had no memories of being there in the past) and because of this, he was in some ways a little clued in before he went to the various sights - e.g Journey Around New York from A to Z was one of the books, have a look at Amazon for some other alternatives - there%26#39;s some geared towards specific attractions like NHM %26amp; the Met.

Most restaurants are child friendly, and you%26#39;ll need to book Serendipity (if I remember correctly) whereas Dylans just around the corner does that sugar indulgance just as well.

Go and enjoy, you%26#39;ll be planning your next trip back before you leave.
