Bus from Newark Airport

Our flight arrives (and departs) from Newark. We%26#39;re staying in midtown. My mom--a flight attendant--says take the bus from Newark to the Port Authority or wherever it goes in midtown and then take a cab from there to the hotel. She said it%26#39;s way cheaper than a cab and just as quick. Agree or disagree?

Don%26#39;t necessarily agree about it being as quick as a taxi but it sure is less expensive. I take it when I can and it works out well.

There%26#39;s also a rail connection that may be a little more $, but not impacted by traffic. See ';Airtrain to New Jersey Transit'; in the FAQ.

How many are in your party? If it is four, the taxi would run you about the same, and take you right to your hotel, with no need to take a cab once you get to Port Authority.

For two of you, the bus would be less expensive. Here is info about the bus:

The AirTrain/New Jersey Transit train option is about the same price, and, as pointed out, you won%26#39;t be stuck on the road if traffic is bad. I usually take the train, just because I think it is more comfortable. Here is some info:

I thought the bus was better than the train and especially if you are going to Midtown. Easier and quicker and less luggage dragging.

Thanks so much for the info and links! We%26#39;ll check out both the bus and the train (I like the train idea precisely b/c of traffic). There%26#39;s just 2 of us and we%26#39;re pretty fit and pack lightly, so luggage lugging won%26#39;t be too much of an issue. You all are just wonderful!

Matte, while you may be right about the luggage dragging, if traffic is bad, I think the train can be quicker than the bus. The main reason I like the train, however, is comfort. I%26#39;m 6%26#39;4'; (1.92 meters) tall, and I don%26#39;t enjoy trying to fold myself into one of those bus seats!

Jersey Transit to NY is the best option. Here is the link

You have to buy tickets to get out of the monorail station and into the main station.
