Please help! Looking for cheap accomodation in NY

Hello,

My friend and I are going to New York 12 to 17 June and looking for good/cheap accomodation (around $100 per night).

Can anyone suggest somewhere near Chelsea?

Many thanks (cant%26#39;t wait)

$100/night is usually the price for a hostel. Chelsealodge.com is popular budget digs in Chelsea but will be more. You might try looking on the search engine on hostelz.com

Leo House is a place run by the Catholic church that%26#39;s in Chelsea and if available, would be that price. Not sure if it%26#39;s an ideal place if you%26#39;re planning on clubbing though.

Welcome to the forum.

Check out the Ipanema Chalet (although it%26#39;s $140 plus tax), West Side Y and the YMCA Vanderbilt. As NYWhiz says, $100 is the price of a hostel with a shared bath in NYC.

Remember that all advertised prices you%26#39;ll see for hotels have an additional tax (around 15%).

You may also have some luck bidding on priceline if you are willing to be flexible with your location.

I hate to say this but Good and Cheap and $100/night ($85+TAX=$100) and Chelsea in June just does not exist. There is a hostel on 20th st (chelsea international hostel)that might fit your price range.

I have heard good things about the Leo House in Chelsea but had book 1 week from May 5-12 and just recently they called to say it had a major pipe break and we would not beable to stay there which left us panicked. They said the Chelsea Lodge was the closest as well as the Seafarers International House was similar to their place.

I called leo house today. They lost our reservation but they didn`t mention anything about the water pipe problems. It did seem a bit disorganized, I guess they are having a rough time. I made a reservation for August at seafarers, I doubt they have anything available for June but you can give them a try.

I%26#39;ve stayed at some beautiful hotels in Manhattan as well as some moderate accomodations in New Jersey. This past fall I stayed at %26#39;Red Roof Inn%26#39; in Parsipanny, New Jersey - it was about $60 a night and only an $8 return ride into the city. The bus picked us up right outside of our hotel and took about 20 minutes. Definately not the same experience as staying in the Hilton or Plaza - but if you%26#39;re looking for a cheap stay it%26#39;s fantastic. Newly renovated, free parking - new beds, clean washrooms - great staff! We really enjoyed our stay there.

There%26#39;s some other hotels a bit closer right near the tunnel - check them out - you can always get a bus/taxi back into Jersey at night!

Do the universities rent out dorm rooms in the summer? That might be an option.

I know you%26#39;d like to stay in Chelsea but if you can%26#39;t find anything and you want to look at places outside Manhattan there is a Red Carpet Inn in Brooklyn. The Red Carpet is right on the L train which runs under 14th Street and stops in Chelsea. I%26#39;ve walked around the neighborhood where the Red Carpet is and it is perfectly fine, it isn%26#39;t as charming as Chelsea but it is safe.

The L train runs 24 hours and offers frequent evening service if you%26#39;re out.
