Aarriving on 6/4 one day ahead of a business conference that starts 6/5. Bringing my daughter with me. We%26#39;re coming into LGA around 7:30am,
We have to find our way to the Warwick Hotel in Manhatten, then we%26#39;ll have the rest of the day to play. I%26#39;m guessing that Warwick will allow us to check our bags early before the 3pm room check-in. Anyone know??
I%26#39;ve spent hours reading the forum, but I don%26#39;t know where to start or what I can get in on just one day. Where should we focus that first day?
My daughter will have some time on her own 6/5 %26amp; 6 while I%26#39;m at conference. We%26#39;ll have the evening of 6/5 to tour together as well. Back to airport around 4 pm on 6/6.
Would really appreciate your advice on what to fit into our time. I don%26#39;t want to miss a lot of stuff because I%26#39;m running around too much or disorganized!
First-Timer has one day to play
I can%26#39;t speak from experience, but the Warwick should be able to store your luggage if they can%26#39;t give you an early check-in.
Plans for your first day in NYC will really depend on your own interests. If you%26#39;re determined to see as much of the city as possible, you can take a tour that will allow you to see a large part of Manhattan, but you won%26#39;t have much time to get off the bus and explore.
I think it would be better to look at the information in the FAQ at the top of this forum (or get a good guide book) and choose a few highlights that seem most interesting to you.
My own inclination would be to take advantage of your hotel%26#39;s location by creating a midtown-oriented itinerary that would include some combination of the following (it%26#39;s possible to squeeze all of them into one day, but it may not be practical or reasonable):
Central Park
Metropolitan Museum (just a brief visit)
St. Patrick%26#39;s Cathedral
Rockefeller Center (maybe visit Top of the Rock)
NY Public Library %26amp; Bryant Park
Grand Central Terminal
[note: the Met is more than a mile from St. Patrick%26#39;s. It%26#39;s a nice walk (along one side of Central Park), but you might want to take a taxi in order to save time (and your feet).
This plan will cause you to spend a lot of time along 5th Avenue, so you can stop at Sak%26#39;s, Tiffany%26#39;s, FAO Schwarz, etc. if you are so inclined.
In the evening (this could apply to the evening of the 5th as well), go to a Broadway show or a concert, opera, ballet, night club, comedy club . . . whatever you and your daughter would enjoy. Even if you don%26#39;t go to a Broadway show, be sure to take a walk through Times Square at night.
