Have been looking around and see lots of negative things said about the Supershuttle. Any opinions of the Airlink shuttle. Do taxi%26#39;s have enough room for three ladies with a suitcase and a carry on each?? I think money wise the would be the same cost?? I am wondering the time difference though??
Airlink New York shuttle Vs Taxi
What airport are you coming into?
If you come into JFK, taxis are a fixed price of $45 and 3 ladies would definitely fit, you can have up to 4 people in a taxi but the trunk is fairly large.
I prefer to take a car service, like Carmel (212-666-6666) or Tel Aviv (212-777-7777), since they wind up to be around the same price as taxis from JFK.
If you are coming into Laguardia (LGA), it%26#39;s really close to the city and it%26#39;s usually cheaper to use a taxi.
Airlink New York shuttle Vs Taxi
Coming in from JFK, Is there a big time differnce in the taxi and the shuttle, not accounting for traffic.
Would three large suitcases be fine??
Take the taxi. It%26#39;s close to the same price, you%26#39;ll all fit, and it will take you straight to your door.
Be sure to only get in a licensed yellow New York taxicab, which you can find by following the signs to the taxi dispatcher. Do not, under any circumstances, accept a ride from anyone who solicits you in the airport.
For 3 people absolutely take a taxi. Any of the shared shuttles will take FOREVER dropping everyone else off. The small amount you might save vs. a taxi is insignificant if not nonexistent. As Crans says, do NOT accept a ride from anyone who approaches you (regardless of what they offer). Know the cross street of your hotel. Don%26#39;t expect the driver to know where it is.
Regarding the time difference between shuttle and taxi: when using a taxi, you simply get in the line (it moves quickly), hop in when your taxi arrives, and go. When you take the shuttle, you very often have to drive around the airport, sometimes from terminal to terminal, waiting for the shuttle to get a full passenger load. That can add time to your trip. Then, once you arrive in Manhattan, the shuttle goes from hotel to hotel, dropping passengers off along the way. If you are the first party dropped off, great. If you are the last party dropped off, you%26#39;ve had a long ride around Manhattan, adding still more time to your trip.
The difference in cost between taxi and shuttle (from JFK) for three of you shouldn%26#39;t be much. I would opt for the taxi. As suggested, be sure to follow the signs to the official taxi stand, where you accept a ride from the official dispatcher. DO NOT accept a ride from anyone who may approach you, offering to take you to Manhattan. There are operating illegally, and are to be avoided. Also, whenever you ride in a taxi be sure to get a receipt; in the event you need to contact the Taxi Commission for any reason you will have the medallion number for reference.
What about four persons going from Newark to Manhattan - will taxi be the best alternative for us?
Yes, it will.
