The Telectroscope, May 22 to June 15

From the mad geniuses who brought the Sultan%26#39;s Elephant to London a couple of years ago:

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sultan%27s_Elephant

';Hardly anyone knows that a secret tunnel runs deep beneath the Atlantic Ocean. In May 2008, more than a century after it was begun, the tunnel will finally be completed. Immediately afterwards, an extraordinary optical device called a Telectroscope will be installed at both ends which will miraculously allow people to see right through the Earth from London to New York and vice versa.';

Obviously there won%26#39;t be any way to speak to each other (that idea is just science fiction), but if people want to see each other in real time - e.g. at 10 a.m. in Brooklyn and 3 p.m. in London - and hold up signs, post-it notes, mime things or just make rude gestures, I imagine that that would be possible.

The telectroscopes will be at Brooklyn Bridge, which is celebrating its 125th anniversary, and the south side of Tower Bridge, London (the one that goes up and down).

Maybe we should have some sort of NyLon Trip Advisor virtual meetup? (Which had better by organised by the New Yorkers, we%26#39;re an apathetic lot in London.)

I have no idea what this is about, but I like the idea of a NyLon virtual meeting. :)

And here%26#39;s a report from CNN:
