Pre theatre dinner for group of 10

There are 10 of us, young to middle aged adults, going to see Passing Strange at the end of June, and we%26#39;re looking for a restaurant that can accommodate us all. I%26#39;ve looked through the forum and haven%26#39;t really seen any restaurant that stikes my fancy. I liked Bar Americain but they don%26#39;t take reservations (online at least) for that many people. It seems like most the restaurants that have been suggested are on the fancier side, ones that you might only visit for special occasions, but I could be wrong. Kinda want to steer clear of French as well. Any suggestions?

A lot of regulars tout Carmine%26#39;s - Italian - large portions - lots of sharing (allowed) not sure of their rezzie policy - I know they do cater to groups.....

If you like the idea of Bar Americain, why not try calling them? I think most restaurants would prefer to take reservations over the telephone, especially when you%26#39;re dealing with such a large group of people.

Would District be too pricey? They have a $45 prix fixe.

Some more ideas:

Dervish (yummy kebabs and more, a short walk away.)

Virgils%26#39; BBQ (NOT the best example of BBQ in NYC, but it%26#39;s good for groups, carnivores and picky eaters. Not good for veggies.)

Cafe Un Deux Trois (I know you want to avoid French, but this place is Americanized. It%26#39;s decent, not the best, good for groups and has a good prix fixe.)

Connolly%26#39;s or St. Andrews - these are upscale pubs.

Osteria al Doge - I%26#39;ve never been, but many forum folks reco it.

Thanks for posting some new restaurants, Queens. It seems like the same ones get mentioned over and over. I checked out Osteria al Doge and it looks pretty good with reasonable prices. Their other location is a only a block from our hotel, so we will probably visit them either way!

I would guess most restaurants would not take a reservation that large online. In this age of computers, we seem to have forgotten about the telephone. I%26#39;m sure a call from Phoenix to NYC will cost a fraction of what you will wind up paying for a meal. You may be asked to leave a credit card number to hold the reservation for a party that large. I will also suggest you start early to avoid missing your curtain since serving such a large party can take a long time. You should also be prepared that most restaurants will add a service charge/tip onto the bill for a party of that size. If you%26#39;re not sure, ask. Don%26#39;t wind up double tipping. ;)

I will definitely call whatever restaurant we choose to dine at to make reservations. I just didn%26#39;t want to choose a place that would not accommodate us all. I think most restaurants now days add the gratuity in for large parties so we will be aware of it. How far in advance do you recommend calling?

Most restaurants start accepting reservations 30 days in advance, but I%26#39;d call now for a large group. The worst that will happen is you%26#39;ll be asked to call back 30 days to the date.
