Duty free shopping at JFK?

I am traveling out of JFK to Spain and am wondering when I can do my duty free shopping. Do I have to buy on my way out of JFK an lug it to Spain with me, or can I buy it upon my return to the states. My memory cannot recall if there are duty free shops in the arrival terminal.

Thanks!

You have to hand over your boarding card to buy duty free. As you hand over a portion when entering the plane you couldn%26#39;t hand it over. Also, there aren%26#39;t any duty free shops in arrivals in JFK. If transfering in Spain, keep the 100ml rule in mind if you decide to buy before leaving.

The idea behind duty free is that you will not be using the items in the country of purchase, so you have to take it out of the country. But there will be duty free in spain (most likely) on the way home.

There is definitely duty free in the airports in Spain.

You cant buy things in the duty free store when you arrive back in the US - you wont even have access to it - its in the departure areas, not arrivals
