Driving from Columbus,OH to Niagara Falls,NY

Hi,

We are planning to drive to Niagara Falls from Columbus,OH. We are planning to start driving on Saturday and return by following Monday evening.

Can you please suggest any itinerary or any particular places that we should cover during the road travel?

Also, any suggestions on where to stay for Saturday night as the hotels/motels are pretty expensive around Niagara Falls.

Any help/suggestion would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

TM

Driving from Columbus,OH to Niagara Falls,NY

we just got back...we left on sunday after church and had one full day on monday and then got up and headed back on tuesday. and we are about a half hour to 45 min south of columbus.

we saw and did plenty in the one day we were there. we stayed in the econo lodge (not the one closest to the falls but the other one) if i were you i would stay on the canadian side or at least stay at a hotel right by the falls. parking can get expensive. however our hotel was only $59 a night so it was a good deal.

Id check the Canadian rates first as they are usually more than the American. Check the hotels on Niagara Falls Blvd as they offer a free shuttle service back and forth to the Falls. The rates may be better as NF Blvd is a few miles from the Falls. We also have a campgound close by where you can pitch a tent if you like. Its about a 10-15 min drive.

Parking downtown can be expensive at about $10 a shot. Dont park at the NIagara Center (One Niagara) as he doesnt post price and sometimes you get stuck in the lot and have to pay $20. Check the city owned parking ramp across the street(attached to the Fallside Cafe) as it is sometimes free. Also across from the Days Inn is a private lot. They usually let you come in and out all day at no extra charge. Ask first though and make sure they still do it. That way you can go to various restaurants, wineries etc and not have to keep paying to park when you get back to the Falls. If you stay at a hotel here though they will offer parking.

Check this site for the best places to see and eat. Maid of the Mist is a must for everyone. WHirlpool Jet boats are pretty cool too.

Thanks a lot for your valuable tips!! I would be coming on Saturday afternoon and stay the whole of Sunday. Since its a Memorial Day weekend, any tips to beat the rush to Maid of the Mist/Cave of the winds/WhirlPool Jet etc?

Thanks again,

TM

if it were me id get there early when they open...course its not always the warmest then. and you would have to suffer as much as we did! lol

have a safe trip!
