boston to cooperstown to new york

my husband, daughter and son are going to boston to watch the redsox 8th July.

They are meeting me in new york and really want to go to cooperstown.

How hard is the drive from Boston to Cooperstown and then cooperstown to new york? It sounds a bit daunting to me to drive these routes especially as they are Australians, don%26#39;t know the roads /freeways at all, left hand drive etc

Is there an easier way? From my research you can train or fly from boston to albany and then maybe hire a car for the couple of days they are there and then fly or train to new york?

any help would be appreciated

Flying would not be my choice. I would drive for sure. Albany is only about a 3 hour drive from Boston and Cooperstown is only about 2 hours from Albany. And the drive from Cooperstown to NYC is only a few hours as well.

If you have questions about routes let me know. I would be glad to help you out.

p.s. when in Cooperstown do not miss Brooks BBQ in Oneonta no trip to area is complete with out it.

Also maybe a side trip to Howe%26#39;s Cavern would be fun as well.

so you don%26#39;t think it would be difficult driving out of Boston and into New York if we haven%26#39;t driven in America before. Any help with the routes would be greatly appreciated.

It is actually pretty easy - take the Mass Turnpike (I-90) west through Massachusetts to Albany; where it becomes the New York State Thruway (still I-90 West). Take exit 25A (I-88). Once on I-88, get off at the first exit (Duanesburg/US 20) and continue east about 40 miles to County Route 31 which will take you into Cooperstown after about 10 miles.

Total time is about 4.5 hours and 250 miles.

If you haven%26#39;t already done so get reservations in Cooperstown asap. It gets very very busy in the summer. Wonderful place.

We drove from New York City to Cooperstown and back in July 2006. I think 5 hours (one way)is what I recall, although the traffic getting out of the city was very packed. Just allow for extra time as you near the city.
