Hubby and I are coming to New York in October, we haven%26#39;t had a holiday that wasn%26#39;t in the UK for around twenty years, so you can imagine just how excited we are to be going to New York of all places.
Hubby is the kind of person who likes to check the %26#39;small print%26#39; on everything,(not a bad thing in most cases). However the arguements are over luggage, of all things.
We know how much each of us can take (weight wise) in suitcases that go in the planes baggage hold, but it%26#39;s the items than you can take ON BOARD the plane, that we are arguing about.
He read at the back of one travel brochure that each passenger is allowed to take a coat on board with them, plus one item of hand held luggage, measuring 45cm x 35cm x 20cm. I happen to have a holdall that roughly measures up to that, but good grief, it doesn%26#39;t look very big to put all the stuff in I wanted, stuff that can%26#39;t go in the baggage hold.
Does the luggage have to be that precise in measurement?
Also the idea was for hubby to take the hand held luggage plus coat, and me, my handbag plus coat, now hubby%26#39;s saying my handbag, would be too big. I do like the bigger one%26#39;s and not the one%26#39;s that just hold your phone, lipstick and loose change. But we%26#39;re not talking another suitcase here!
Stupid question to ask I know, but if anyone can help it would stop us from having an arguement about this at least once a week!!
Very Stupid Question but causing arguement!!
who are u flying with? were going with BA and they have said u can take 2 items of hand luggage, one being a small suitcase (dont know the measurements but literally one that fits into the overhead cabins) and either a laptop bag or handbag. Dont worry too much, as long as you dont have liquids that equate to more then 100ml per bottle you will be fine with a handbag!
Very Stupid Question but causing arguement!!
I am confused as to why you are checking a travel brochure and not the website of the airline you are flying with.
actually where are you flying from?- gatwick i know has just a one bag rule... but thats just through customs.
Yes, check the website of the airline you%26#39;re flying with. In my experience, you%26#39;re allowed a handbag plus a cabin bag.
Deanna, as you were told above, the luggage-size rules are set by the individual airlines, and can be different from airline to airline.
With what airline are you flying?
What are the luggage size rules of THAT AIRLINE?
And just as a heads up, the rules on luggage can change b/w now and when you fly. Yesterday, American Airlines announced they%26#39;ll now CHARGE for checked luggage on domestice flights. Fuel costs are making the airlines do crazy things to lighten loads and generate more cash.
So as not to scare the OP, that American Airlines charge is for domesstic flights, not international. Although I%26#39;m sure it%26#39;s just a sign of things to come.
My brother works for AA at JFK and he doesn%26#39;t think the %26#39;first bag charge%26#39; will last more than a week or two before it gets dropped.
:)
Thick as I am I never thought to check with the airline itself.
Btw, we are flying from Manchester Airport, via Continental Airways or Airlines?
Thanks for the advice, will check the Continental website.
I would call the airlines you are flying and ask them specifically all the questions you wat...I jut flew to the states via multi airlines but was booked through United(that is who I called) and they told me what I can and cannot o...often the information is ot updated on the airlines website....
