Hello experts.
Looking for recommendations for dinner before we go to Spamalot on June 22 at 7 pm.
Heard lots about Carmines? Italian would be great.
Also should we go before or after the show?
Thanks in advance.

Carmines serves huge portions, so if there are fewer than 4 of you, you won%26#39;t be able to finish the meal.
I like Maria Pia and Bella Vita. Have a look on www.menupages.com for addresses and reviews.

Depending on the person, Carmine%26#39;s can get hot and cold reviews. :)
Personally, when I ate there I liked it a lot. Not the best Italian I%26#39;ve ever had, but good, and plenty of it for a reasonable price.
But there are some caveats:
First - the portions are huge, so unless you are a group of four or larger it%26#39;s not a place I would go.
Second - I don%26#39;t think they take reservations for less than four people (not at all?) and they are usually pretty busy before and after a show.
So, unless you have more than 2 people, I%26#39;d avoid Carmine%26#39;s.
However, I%26#39;m sure you will get plenty of other recommendations for Italian in and near the theater district.
Just saw Spamalot on Saturday with our three teenage boys. Went to Angus McIndoes (SP?)Just a few doors down from the theatre. Great! I had great fish hubby had fabulous veal and the boys had chicken and pasta dishes. Had calamari for apperizers. Wine for us and beer for the boys.dinner for all came to about 200 dollars. The food was fabulous and you couldn%26#39;t be closer to the theatre..Have fun you will love Spamalot!!
Whether to eat before or after is really up to you and your other plans for the day. You%26#39;d have to eat at about 5 to make the show. Since it%26#39;s a Sunday, you might have brunch and not be hungry then. OR, you might get up early, have breakfast and enjoy an early dinner.
I agree Carmine%26#39;s is really best for 4 or more and more importantly, you should have a reservation. John%26#39;s pizzeria is also on the same block as the restaurant (not sure about reservations). Trattoria Trecolori is an Italian that%26#39;s well liked that%26#39;s nearby too.
Try Becco (http://becco-nyc.com) on resaurant row (46th between 8th and 9th). They have a reasonably priced amazing all you can eat pasta special. I would probobly eat before the show.
