Hotels Near Buffalo train station

Hi all

I am getting a train from Canada to Buffalo and am going to stay the night before i set off to drive to boston.

I am going to have all my luggage with me and wonder where are the train stations (as there are 2) in the downtown or could you advise of hotels near the station or is it worth getting a taxi to downtown?

I would like your suggestions as still unsure which station to book my train into - Buf exchange or depew?

thank again!

Gabi

Few trains go to the downtown station; most go to the station in Depew, which is a considerable distance from downtown. You will not have the option to go to one or the other. When you are ready to buy your ticket, you%26#39;ll need to find out from Amtrak which station will be your point of arrival. I%26#39;d do that before booking a hotel.

I just checked the Amtrak site, and I was wrong; apparently when traveling via the Maple Leaf, you can choose your station. In that case, downtown might be a better option, as there will be restaurants within walking distance once you get to your hotel. You might check out the Hampton Inn on Delaware Avenue. Rates include breakfast, and it%26#39;s in a central downtown location. They may have a shuttle to the train station as well.

Agree with earlier response that between the two locations, I would opt for downtown and the Hampton Inn on Delaaware is a great location -- variety pf restaruants, coffee, and clubs all within short walking distance. That said, as noted earlier the station at Exchange is very small and odds are that there will be no cabs waiting so you will most likely have to call for one upon arrival.

Question -- you mention you are driving to Boston the next morning, so where are you picking the car up? If the car pick up location is the airport, I would suggest the Depew station (the primary Buffalo train station). It is a short ride over to the airport (8 - 10 minutes). When I got off the train in Depew last month, there were cabs waiting to pick-up passengers. If this is the stop you plan to use, I suggest staying at the Hampton Inn, Williamsville, NY (only about 10 minutes from the airport). The Village of Williamsville where the hotel has a number of good options for dinner on Main Street.

Are you taking the train from Toronto?

Why not drive the whole way and rent in Canada? Most rental agencies permit this and allow one ways from Canada...This will save you much time and hassle, the border issues are very minimal...

hi

yes i will be picking a car up from the airport so depew is the best... how far from down town though? is it walkable or is there buses?

The reason I am not driving from Toronoto to Boston is that the car hire is very expensive as the drop off fees are high, plus there are limited cars to choose from. But I think it would be more fun to go by plane, trains and automobiles :D

Thanks

Downtown is not walkable from the airport. By car, the trip from the airport is 15 - 20 minutes (it is about 8 miles or so). If you are picking up a car at the airport, why not drive downtown for the evening or night?

I%26#39;ve seen buses runing fromt the airport, but I%26#39;ve never taken one so I do not know the details. With luggage, my advice would be to take a taxi downtown.

The drive from Buffalo to Boston is an easy drive. Head east on Interstate-90 out of Buffalo and it runs right to Boston.
