Short Vacation in NYC

Hello

My wife and I are driving from Toronto to visit NYC for the first time for five days in mid June and we are wondering about several things for example:

where to stay? Does it make sense to stay in New Jersy and leave our car there to avoid heavy ny traffic and parking fees?

Any reasonable clean hotels that you may recommend?

Any areas we should avoid?

what are the most important things to see or do?

Your comments will be appreciated.

You would want to compare prices. If you stay in Jersey, stay away from Newark and Jersey City. You can look at the path train schedule into NYC and Hoboken is a nice area. Or stay in Fort Lee and take the bus to 175th Street and then the A train into the city or maybe Fort Lee has a bus into the Port Authority. You just have to compare the extra travel time versus the extra cost to stay in NYC.

For hotels in New York I recommend you look at the comments on tripadvisor.com. The New York Hilton is in a good location.

New York City is generally safe but as in any big city always be on the alert. I would avoid Harlem and the South Bronx at night.

As far as activities, they are endless. Here are some ideas.

Broadway or Off Broadway plays

If you stay in Fort Lee, I%26#39;d take the A train to 190th Street and go to Fort Tryon Park and then the Cloisters Museum which is part of the Metropolitan Museum of Art and has nice midieval architecture.

Statue of Liberty

Empire State Building

Yankees or Met Game

Bryant or Battery Park

Empire State Building

Central Park

On Tuesday June 3, they are having the annual museum mile along 5th Avenue around the 80%26#39;s to the 90%26#39;s where from 6-9PM, you can get into many museums for free.

www.menupages.com can give you ideas for restaurants. Bella Cucina has good Italian food and they are on 87th and Lexington which is near Musuem Mile.

Brooklyn Heights has nice views of Manhattan and Greenwich Village is fun to.

Have a great trip.
