We live in NYC so we%26#39;re looking for something upstate (short driving distance of 2 hours) or even in Long Island near the beaches for a romantic 2 night getaway this summer. Can anyone suggest one? Thanks in advance!

Romantic Getaway OUTSIDE of NYC?
If you like the beach, there are some lovely B%26amp;B%26#39;s on the Jersey Shore...Spring Lake comes to mind:-) Enjoy!
i would recommend the northwest corner of Connecticut....you won%26#39;t have that awful LI beach traffic and although you won%26#39;t have ocean, the lakes are beautiful and some of the lake beaches are very pleasant.....look at inns in Lakeville, Sharon, Salisbury (a lot of B%26amp;B%26#39;s and some old inns); if you truly want ocean only, take a look at the Ct. shore...beaches aren%26#39;t as brilliant as LI but the traffic is a whole lot better and the lobsters are better! The Northwest corner is about a two hour drive, the shore drive could take you two and a half
I%26#39;ll second the Catskills and Litchfield County, CT. New Jersey and Long Island aren%26#39;t the first two places to come to mind when I%26#39;m thinking romance.
NW corner of Ct.

On Long Island, consider Shelter Island or maybe Sag Harbor. New Hope, Pa and Lambertville, NJ are very pretty but not sure what there is to do in summer. If you%26#39;re foodies, maybe a stay near Hyde Park and the Culinary Institute would be nice.
Within two hours of NYC I second “nywhiz’s” recommendation of the Mayflower Inn. The inn is a Relais %26amp; Chateaux property located in Washington, CT. We’ve had several memorable dinners there and the surroundings are beautiful. A little more than 2 hours away from NYC is another wonderful Relais %26amp; Chateaux property - the Castle Hill Inn %26amp; Resort in Newport, RI ( www.castlehillinn.com ). My parents stayed in the turret Suite last year and raved about it.
Both of these are great, but are over $500 per night for rooms in the summer......one can have a great time in NW Ct (or RI but no way can you drive to Newport in under three hours from the city in the summer!) in a B%26amp;B or Inn for less than half of that.......and it can still be romantic and wonderful....personally i would rather spend the money on anything but a $500 hotel room
