Best time to book a flight?

After resisting temptation for over 4 months I%26#39;ve done the inevitable and started planning trip no. 4.

Have booked the Radio City Apartments for Feb. 2009 but as this is the 1st time I%26#39;ve booked flights and hotel seperately I need advice on the best time to book flights?

When are they at their cheapest and who should I book through?

To get an idea of fares, try www.kayak.com They scan hundreds of different websites and present their findings all on one site. They also have information on when the least expensive fares might be in relationship to your travel dates. So if you can be flexible in your travel dates, sometimes by as little as one day, you can potentially save quite a bit of money.

With the quickly rising cost of fuel, I should think sooner rather than later would be a good time to book plane travel, but who knows?

I find booking airfare as far in advance as possible works for holidays to the US....maybe because i dearn%26#39;t wait until last minute otherwise i%26#39;m sure i%26#39;d get great deals (or maybe not..who knows :-)!)

I%26#39;ve just booked for december (although its into LA and home from NYC)...been looking past few months - started off at 拢404ish...we bought last week at 拢433 its now 拢435...

Thanks for your replies.

Have registered with www.kayak.com for their e-mail alerts and will give it a week or 2 and see which way the fares are heading!

With the price of oil rapidly rising I can%26#39;t see fares going anyway but up. The falling dollar is also not helping. American Airlines is going to start charging a surcharge for the FIRST checked bag--effective June 15 on Domestic flights. So, I would moniter for a short time and book if you are positive you are making the trip.

Probably better to ask ';Has anyone recently seen prices go down on international flights?';

I have seen hotel room prices go up and down, but I am glad I booked my July flights back in January.

booking ahead lets you save up more money to spend when you get there too :)
