Hi all - My husband, daughters (14 %26amp; 9) and I will be driving from Illinios to Burlington Vermont in late June. We%26#39;d like to spend 2 or 3 nights in the Adirondacks....any ideas on places that might make the kids happy (ie touristy) and the hubby happy (ie relaxing non touristy)? I know I%26#39;m asking for 2 different things!
We%26#39;re also driving back home via Niagara and plan on spending a few days there %26amp; in the Toronto areas as well, but I thought seeing some of the Adirondacks would be a nice start.
Thanks for your help

I%26#39;d avoid Lake George and consider Old Forge or Lake Placid. Old Forge has a waterpark, minature golf etc. for the kids. Could also take a chairlift up McCauley. Or Climb Bald Mnt.
Lake Placid is more dramatic in terms of scenery...your in the high peaks. You could take the lift up Whiteface or drive up Whiteface. Fantastic views from there.
Both have a website...you should check them out.

Pleasant non-touristy towns:
Long Lake, Schroon Lake, Inlet, Saranac Lake, Blue Mtn Lake.
The Adirondack Museum in Blue Mtn Lake is worthwhile; you kids should enjoy it. A climb up Blue Mtn is also doable by the whole family.
Another worthwhile, relatively family friendly hike is the ';waterfall hike'; that starts at the Ausable Club on Route 73 in the Keene Valley. It passes several falls as you hike along the west branch of the Ausable River.
Saranac Lake is 8 miles from Lake Placid but much quiter and less expensive.
Touristy toens:
Lake Placid, Lake George, and Old Forge.
Don%26#39;t have much to offer because I avoid them. Lake George is a pretty lake as is Mirror Lake in downtown Lake Placid. The Olympic-related stuff in Lake Placid would be fun for your kids.
