Lacrosse? Anyone?

My SO is a bit of a lacrosse tragic (he used to play competive lacrosse for our home state here at home)....so for our upcoming trip the the US can anyone advise me of:

*Lacrosse-specific stores in NYC. Are there any? Where? (We are staying in Manhattan but OK to travel outside the city by public transport or cab depending on $$).

*When does the season begin %26amp; end? Do tickets sell out quickly (would I need to book online prior to arrival or can I pick up tix on the day)? The price...?

Since I am the person responsible for navigation when we travel it will be up to me to find these places and get us there so I thought I might just as well keep it a secret and then - voila! - there we are at a match ';oh what a coincidence'; etc etc

Anything else relevant to lacrosse is welcome. I hope there are some of you who like the game out there. I understand it%26#39;s more a west coast sport and pretty popular in %26#39;your parts%26#39; :-)

Thanks!

Lacrosse? Anyone?

of course I meant to say East coast...just woke up and haven%26#39;t had my does of caffeine yet! Apologies...at least I spelt Manhattan right ;-P

Lacrosse? Anyone?

Adelaide

Here%26#39;s a link to the national league indoor lacrosse team (looks like the season runs December - April):

http://www.nytitanslacrosse.com/

And this site looks like it%26#39;s good some good info, but it%26#39;s not the national league:

Paragon Sports - which is like Rebel Sport - stocks lacrosse gear, too:

I just searched the forum (you%26#39;ve intrigued me) and Kickice went to a lacrosse game in Feb - here%26#39;s the excerpt from the trip report:

Then at lunchtime I was back at Madison Square Garden. Not for hockey this time, but for lacrosse, to see New York Titans play Buffalo Bandits. I鈥檝e seen some outdoor lacrosse on TV before, but this was my 1st experience of indoor lacrosse. The skill level is superb, some of the passes and catches, and some of the goals are really cool. But one thing I found odd, is that they play REALLY loud rock music throughout the game! Not just in the breaks but all the time. Not sure how long this team will last in New York, with so much competition, and it can鈥檛 be cheap playing out of MSG, but it really is a fun sport, but drop the damn music!

Thanks kate!

An indoor game would be great since it%26#39;ll be cold (we%26#39;re there in Feb. Brrrrrr)...Madison Square even better as it%26#39;s just a hop, skip and jump away.

I will go look at those links...after my latte ;-)

Cheers!

I miss Melbourne coffee!

hehe...I was going to ask YOU about where I can get a good cup in NYC...is it as impossible as I%26#39;m lead to believe!? It%26#39;ll kill me if I cant get my 2 a day habit looked after while Im there!

Haha - even *I* miss Melbourne coffee.

Adelaide, I had no luck with coffee in NY. I%26#39;ve got a couple of places written down to try out, butthe list is at home...will post it soon to get some feedback.

On topic, even I%26#39;m interested in seeing Lacrosse. Sounds like a fun thing to watch.

adelaide, you aren%26#39;t going to be able to purchase tickets yet for any matches. This most recent season just ended, and tickets are not yet on sale for the 2009 season. Keep checking the website; I should think they will start selling tickets this fall sometime.

Thanks all!

I was hoping to get to see a college match - he knows some guys who play for John Hopkins and spent some time there last visit to the US - but it looks like NYs own team is based out of Albany so that%26#39;s too far to travel when we only have 5 days in the city I am assuming. Anyway...indoor seems like a happy compromise if we can swing a couple of tix to MSG so thanks for the info, kate, as I wouldn%26#39;t have known there was an indoor comp if you hadn%26#39;t have said so.

Mez...is it worth considering St*rbucks if we%26#39;re really desperate for a cuppa? Bleurgh ;-O

I know almost nothing about lacrosse, but I checked out a few hunches and came up with some information that might be helpful.

Columbia University has a lacrosse team and plays its games on their campus in Manhattan. Admission is free! Their season started at the end of February and ended in late April (next year%26#39;s schedule hasn%26#39;t been posted yet, but I imagine it will be similar; for more information, go to www.gocolumbialions.com).

There are also lacrosse teams at Princeton University and Hofstra University (and maybe others; these are the ones I was able to identify quickly). You can get to either of these by train (plus a short bus or taxi ride in the case of Hofstra). Also, Hofstra will be one of the locations of the quarterfinals of the national championship tournament on May 16th and 17th, 2009.
