Pub/Bar Crawl

So far I do not have anything planned for the Saturday night that we will be in the city. Of course, dinner somewhere, but was thinking after about doing a pub/bar crawl. Is there a good area where we can find alot of places clustered together where we can go into, have a drink, and move on to the next? Not interested in trying to get past a rope or anything along those lines. I am mainly a beer drinker, friends seem to lean towards wine.

Can we expect to pay cover charges in a typical bar? And as far as clothing, is there a ';typical uniform'; that you see most people in? In Florida, its all about less is more and in more, you%26#39;ll be very hot!

Yes. It%26#39;s called Manhattan. (pah-da-Paahhh!!!!)

Seriously, though there are lots of sections that fit that description. Two of my fave nabes are the East Village and the Lower East Side. Velvet ropes are not completely unknown, but the vibe leans more to the indie rock/alternative/punk-ish, rather than glamor, see-and-be-seen type of thing.

There%26#39;s also a lot of cool places in Greenwich Village, but on saturdays, they are over-run with tourists and NYU frat types. That may or may not appeal to you.

Oh, and our bars close at FOUR :-)

Fifth Avenue in Park Slope, Brooklyn (NOT the same 5th Ave. as Manhattan), from Bergen Street to 14th Street.

Bleecker Street, from Lafayette to 6th Ave, Manhttan. (Has to be done once.)

First Avenue, from Houston to E. 14th Street (plus Ave A, 2nd Ave and 3rd Ave, same vicinity)

Ludlow Street on the LES. (Again, a bit overdone, but a ';must';.)

Amsterdam Avenue, from 70th to 86th Street (one more ';strip'; to check off list.)
