Which area??? October trip.

We are coming in october for 3 nights, yikes, hotels are expensive this time of year. Husband surprised me with Madonna tickets for Oct 11 - yipeeeeee. Last time we were there was for her concert in 2001.

I have only stayed in the times square (2 work trips, once on our own) so now I would like to stay somewhere different. Most likely midtown east or maybe murray hill or other? Which area would you suggest that would be more central to most attractions? I would prefer an area with lots of great/recommended restaurants close by (I know, that doesnt narrow it down too much)......any hotels suggestions??

Any thoughts appreciated!

If you%26#39;ve been to New York previously, you know that it doesn%26#39;t really matter where you stay, as the subway is a safe, inexpensive means of getting almost anywhere in Manhattan quickly. From the FAQs on the first page of this forum:

As the attractions are all over, as well as restaurants, there is no one area that is a ';must'; as regards lodging. More importantly, what is your budget? Yes, October is an expensive time; the average cost of a room in New York is over $300. Provide the forum with a dollar figure, and suggestions will be easier to provide.

When you%26#39;re alone and life is making you lonely

You can always go downtown

When you got worries, all the noise and the hurry

Seems to help, I know, downtown

Just listen to the music of the traffic in the city

Linger on the sidewalks where the neon signs are pretty

How can you lose?

The lights are much brighter there

You can forget all your troubles, forget all your cares

And go downtown

Things%26#39;ll be great when you%26#39;re downtown

No finer place for sure, downtown

Everything%26#39;s waiting for you

Don%26#39;t hang around and let your problems surround you

There are movie shows, downtown

Or maybe you know some little places to go to

Where they never close, downtown

Just listen to the rhythm of the music that they%26#39;re playin%26#39;

Making conversation while you%26#39;re on the dance floor swayin%26#39;

Happy again

The lights are much brighter there

You can forget all your troubles, forget all your cares

And go downtown

Where all the lights are bright, downtown

Waiting for you tonight, downtown

You%26#39;re gonna be alright now

And you may find somebody kind to help and understand you

Someone who is just like you and needs a gentle hand to guide them along

So maybe I%26#39;ll see you there

You can forget all your troubles

Just forget all your cares

And go downtown

Things%26#39;ll be great when you%26#39;re downtown

Don%26#39;t wait a minute more, downtown

Everything%26#39;s waiting for you

Downtown, where all the lights are bright

Downtown, waiting for you tonight

Downtown, you%26#39;re going to be alright now

Get on, get on, get on downtown

Fade:

Downtown, where all the lights are bright

Downtown, waiting for you tonight

Downtown, you%26#39;re going to be alright now

Get on, get on, get on downtown

Great JAWP. ;)

';Which area would you suggest that would be more central to most attractions?';

1) Most attractions are not in the same place.

2) More central than what?

3)Murray Hill is in midtown east.

While I agree with JAWP about staying ';downtown'; (can be any area south of midtown), I%26#39;m really with Rocco about any place as long as it%26#39;s near a subway is ok. Get the best deal you can for your dates. Do you realize it%26#39;s a holiday weekend? The Mon. is Columbus day and the Thurs. before is Yom Kippur, Jewish New Year so many people will take a 4 day weekend. Looking on quikbook.com the nicest thing below $300 I see is the Kimberly ($295/night plus tax!)

If you don%26#39;t mind staying in a smaller place, you might check a b %26amp; b like

west-eleventh.com

gvhabitue.com

both in the village.

Thanks rocco....

Im hoping to find something in the $350 and under range.

Looking at maybe hotel metro? I know its really easy to get all around (love that subway system, something Seattle is so lacking) and there are many, many great restaurants to choose from. Is the westside a little more popular for restaurants??

JAWP, huh??

wow JAWP is that you on the video in the cute bow tie ??

Don%26#39;t you just love the way she sings *Neon*

Anyone have any advice on the Radisson lexington hotel? Its coming up for $254 through their website for that weekend??

No clue. This hotel may be very nice. My experience in Kansas City 4 or so years ago was that roaches ran wild and electricity was compromised. People who used hair dryers on the 3rd floor blew out lights, etc., on the second floor. Plus the fire alarm went crazy every night, with no documented risk to visitors.

From what I can remember others commenting, it may be in need of a renovation, or perhaps they are slowly renovating, so if you get a new room it%26#39;s great, but if you get an old room, not so much. I don%26#39;t know from personal experience, however.

If you google ';Radisson Lexington Hotel reviews'; you%26#39;ll have more opinions than you could ever want.

No, to the Radisson Lexington.

tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g60763-d93526-R鈥?/a>

In fact, no to any Radisson in NYC.

Yeah, thats what I figured for the price....but some of the reviews here on TA are favorable....Its always so hard to know. I liked the fact that it had a starbucks, you know us seattle people need to have our lattes :) Im not too critical when it comes to hotels where you dont plan to spend any time other than sleeping - just a clean, modern room with space large enough to roll your suitcase around the bed.

We stayed at the ';Mildew Plaza'; last time and it was a dump, stayed the sheraton new york for work, a nice place but nothing too fancy, stayed at the Helmsley midtown once, way too old (dark antique furnishings) and stuffy for my tastes.......Any other suggestions are helpful, there is just so much to choose from its confusing....... Looked at redweek.com timeshare units in Affinia Dumont and Affinia Manhatten, Im hoping one of those becomes available.

Back to more research.....

Thanks for everyones imput!
