Thanks in advance to anyone who can offer advice. This site looks very informative, so here goes:
I%26#39;d like to drive down (or up) to Saratoga for the Memorial Day weekend (from New York, NY). I don%26#39;t mind the 3.5-4 hour drive if Saratoga Springs is as good as I hear.
My plan is to go to Saratoga Spa State Park and spend the majority of the day there (Saturay). My primary goal is to visit a Spa and/or Bathhouse which I hear the State Park has. Also i%26#39;m hearing great things about Crystal Spa (is it nearby)?
I basically want to head out Early Saturday and checkout early Monday so 2 nights of just things to do with my girlfriend. Any advice or suggestions?
Last minute HELP! Need idea for this weekend! In addition to the spas and the baths you mentioned (the Crystal Spa is located on North Broadway–not far from the entrance to the State Park), there are lots of other things to do in the Spa City.
The forecast for this weekend is supposed to be good, so spending some time in the state park would be a good thing to do. Pack a picnic lunch, sample the mineral waters, people watch and just relax!
Not sure what you are into, but there are several interesting museums you could check out: Car Museum, Museum of Ballet and the National Harness and Horseracing Museums to name a few. You could also check out the Saratoga Gaming %26amp; Raceway (slots, harness racing %26amp; nightclub).
Read over the Saratoga Forum, there are many suggestions for dining out; lots of options here.
If you are into golf, you can play at the course in the State Park (Avenue of Pines) or at the Saratoga National Golf Course (Rt. 9P, just out side the city).
Another suggestion is to visit the gardens at Yaddo. Yaddo was built in 1893 by New York City fancier and philanthropist Spencer Trask for his poet wife Katrina. The home for years has been an artists%26#39; retreat. The rose gardens are not yet in bloom, but it’s a nice place to visit.
Another suggestion is to take a quick drive (1/2 hour)up the “Northway” (I-87) and checkout Lake George in the foothills of the Adirondack Mountains. You can take a boat ride on the lake and take in the beautiful scenery.
A good source of information is www.saratoga.com. Check it out, you’ll find many things on this site that will help you plan your weekend.
And yes, the trip ';up'; to our wonderful city is well worth the drive!
Enjoy and safe travels!
Last minute HELP! Need idea for this weekend!I agree with everything TwoOntheRun said. The Crystal Spa is close to the park entrance on Route 9, and is wonderful. Also, downtown there will be a sidewalk sale all weekend. If you are into music, Ann Hampton Callaway will be at the Spa Little Theater Saturday night, and there is a folk festival at the fairgrounds in Ballston Spa all weekend. Also, there is a very small (but festive) parade in Lake George Village at 11am on Saturday. There is great outlet shopping up there (exit 20), and also fantastic bike paths and hiking trails. In addition, I like the Tang Museum at Skidmore College(if you like art museums). Have fun!
