Hotel on upper east side

We have had to completly change our itinerary. We are going to upstate New York for our daughters graduation June 13th. She has just decided to accept a job in NYC and has an apartment on E. 80th. We would like to stay close to help her get moved in. But I am not finding much in that area. We would like upscale.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

What is your nightly budget?

Hotel on upper east side

There is a Courtyard Marriott on East 92nd, though I wouldn%26#39;t call it upscale it%26#39;s suppopsedly nice (it%26#39;s only a year, year and a half old). A friend and his wife came down a few weeks ago and stayed at some fancy boutique hotel in the East 60s (I think) near the Park. I can see if I can get the name.

But honestly a subway or cab will get you anywhere you need to go, so you don%26#39;t need to stay right there on the UES (most hotels are in midtown)

You should go to www.maps.google.com and put in your daughter%26#39;s exact address. Then click on Search Nearby and put in ';hotels';. You%26#39;ll get the location of all the nearby hotels which you can then research to see if it%26#39;s your kind of place.

There are very limited hotel options on the UES. They are

The Courtyard on 92 st. which while new and fresh, is all the way over east on 1st ave. If daughter is also that far east, it could be fine. Otherwise, not.

The Wales Hotel can be nice on Madison ave. %26amp; 92 st. but basic rooms are very small.

The Franklin is probably closest to your daughter on 87 st. %26amp; Lexington. Photos online may look appealing but when I was last in this hotel some years ago, it was one step up from a hostel. Most rooms were very small.

The Surrey is probably the best overall option if it fits your budget. While the decor is very dated, the location is fabulous (74 st. b/w Fifth %26amp; Madison) and the place is well run (by Affinia).

The Carlyle is on 77th st. %26amp; Madison, very upscale but usually overpriced. But you might prefer this.

There are several very expensive hotels in the 60%26#39;s including the Plaza Athenee, the Lowell, the Loew%26#39;s Regency and the more affordable Affinia Gardens.

As far as budget between $600 -$800 is O.K. as we will mostly likely move to the lower westside after we get her moved in.

We do not have to be right by her yet we have to get her a bed and who knows what else. So being in the area would be nice.

In the fall we split our stay between the Bowery and Michelagelo. We also have enjoyed Ritz Carlton Central Park, yet it has gotten very over priced.

You guys are great.

I was posting at the same time. I checked the Surrey and they are closing down for renovations. I will try some of your other suggustions. Is anyone familiar with the Affinia Gardens as she will need to stay with us for 2 nights until she get';s a bed.

Sleepy%26#39;s, a New york bedding chain, will deliver a bed the same day; others may as well but i know that several people i know have gone in in the am, tested mattresses and they arranged same day delivery in the afternoon

The Affinia Gardens is very nice. It%26#39;s not as upscale as some of the other places you%26#39;ve stayed, but it%26#39;s a suite hotel and would be a good base for shopping for the apt. It%26#39;s not far from Bloomingdales and surrounding Bloomingdales are places like Sleepy%26#39;s for a bed, the Container Store. There%26#39;s a Crate %26amp; Barrel on Madison %26amp; ~ 61 st. It would be a good location.

Thanks for that information on Sleepys. I will have her check it out.

Also we are looking for a good restaurant to take her and a couple of her friends for graduation. Good food and fun atmosphere. I was thinking maybe the meat packing district as they will want to go clubbing after.

Thanks

Pastis or Buddakan come to mind.
