The ';old/New'; farmont....now The Plaza

Never been to NYC and pretty darn excited....

what can you tell me about this hotel? can find any reviews on it, I realize that it has been remodeled, but how is the location? and Where is the BEST Italian/American food place?

The ';old/New'; farmont....now The Plaza

It%26#39;s a great location, but it depends on what you plan on doing while in NYC. It%26#39;s located on 5th avenue and across the street from Central Park.

There%26#39;s lots of shopping and some fine dining restaurants nearby, but it%26#39;s more of a commercial area and not really a neighborhood place at night. It%26#39;s in a safe area, in a pricey neighborhood, it%26#39;s just surrounded by high end stores and no one really lives there.

They just renovated the hotel, I went inside and the lobby looks nice but the other common areas are still being renovated. It%26#39;s converting into a condo buildling with a hotel section.

I love Baldoria for Italian food, it%26#39;s owned by the son of the restaurant owner for Rao%26#39;s (which is impossible to get into). They have a good price fixe menu for pre-theater since it%26#39;s near the Theater District, but my favorite is the meatballs for appetizers and lamb chops for my entree.

If you%26#39;re looking for a cheaper Italian restaurant, that has the normal chicken parm and the like, go to Carmine%26#39;s or Tony D%26#39;napoli%26#39;s, but beware, they get a lot of tourists at both and they are family style dining.

Enjoy your trip!

There is no farmont or even Fairmont in NYC. At almost $1000/night or more, unless you%26#39;ve won this as a prize, I would chose the Mandarin Oriental or Trump International instead. The Plaza is not ready.

There is no one best ANYTHING in NYC. There%26#39;s too much selection. You%26#39;ll find copious debates on best Italian, best steak and best pizza, bagels etc. in the FAQ here

the fairmont chain, owns the plaza

tell her skylady.....heck i didn%26#39;t know...

That may be, but the hotel is not called by that name. Starwood owns a lot of hotels in NYC but none of them are called Starwood, nor would you find reviews for any of them if you looked under Starwood. That was my point.

okie-dokie

golfman69,

NYwhiz is right about the food. There is no best anything. Carmines may be one of the worst not one of the best. Please do yourself a favor and don%26#39;t go. Look at other posts on Italian.

Everyone has their favorite Mine is Peasant and we are going tomorrow.
