Gay Bars

Hi there, i am travelling to New York this summer and was wandering if there are any really good Gay Bars?

Gay Bars

Benny,

What do you mean by really good gay bars?

There are gay bars all over Manhattan. What will be really good for you depends on what type of crowd youa re looking for, Age range, ect.. Here are some links to HX, Next, and Metrosource, some local gay magazines that will list bars, parties ect..

Gay Bars

I went to a gay bar in New York called %26#39;The Dugout%26#39; and it was horrible. The fat African bartender that was there was a real idiot and the rudest person I%26#39;ve ever met. Please, don%26#39;t go there.

Hi, thanks for replying. Id like to go to Gay Bars that are safe and also attract a trendy crowd, with a few hot men of course.

Hi Benny,

OK,

My opinion on this topic became an issue with another poster here several months ago, but here is goes. I would agree with the above poster about the Dugout. The Dugout is located at the end of Christopher St. Christopher St. was once the center of the gay scene here in NYC. This is relevent in terms of gay history. Stonewall was the site of the Stonewall riots the ignited the gay rights movement and gave birth to all of the gay pride festivals.

read the above link and you will see why this is an area to visit in terms of gay history.

However, the bars there tend to attract an older, IMHO, not very good looking crowd. This isn%26#39;t the area that most younger gays go out.

There are three areas that I would suggest(that are coming to me now)

Hells Kitchen, West side in the 50%26#39;s. There are a few fun bars there, Therapy, Vlaada and Posh, Not sure of any others but it%26#39;s a good start.

Chelsea, West side, starting at Splash on 17th between 5th and 6th(not my favorite place but worth checking out, it%26#39;s been around about 16 years and is a staple here)

8th ave in Chelsea has several bars, Gym Bar, this is a gay sports bar that attracts a jeans and t%26#39;shirt crowd. It is fun most nights for happy hour.

G, on 19th between 7th and 8th, this is a prettier crowd, Trendier, more fashiony. Also a good happy hour crowd and crowded on weekends.

Barracuda, on 22nd just east of 8th ave, very popular.

The Eagle on 28th between 10th and 11th, this is a very popular leather bar. Not strictly leather. Jeans and t%26#39;s. They do a really fun Beer blast on Sundays. Crowded around 7 PM on. Very casual. really nice when the weather is good as they have a roofdeck.

The other area I%26#39;d check out is the East Village,

There are many bars there that are fun. This is a more low key area, Bars are a more hipster crowd.

Pheonix is good. I%26#39;ve also been to Eastern Block, Very small but crowded and a cool, attractive crowd

Either HX or Next have a gay map in the center. Pick one up when you get here if the map isn%26#39;t online.

I%26#39;m sorry, now you have to watch this.

It can be a soundtrack for your search ...
