I%26#39;ve used Trip Advisor to plan my own trips for a long time, so I wanted to ';give back';! If you%26#39;re looking for a reasonable place to stay in NYC, try NYHabitat.com. It%26#39;s locals renting out their apartments short-term. Full disclosure: I rent my apartment through them, but I%26#39;m pretty fully-booked, so there%26#39;s no benefit for me. But I tried to book a hotel for a friend recently, and was shocked how bad the prices are--so I wanted to let you know there%26#39;s an alternative. NYH starts around $135 a night. If the others are like mine (although there are some fairly high-end properties), it%26#39;s not completely devoid of personal stuff (like a hotel would be), but if you need to use the spices, or the shampoo, or some extra towels, they%26#39;re there for you to help yourself. Consider it like staying with a friend-of-a-friend. I won%26#39;t sell it anymore, but it%26#39;s an option. :)
Insider tip: A reasonable place to stay in NYC
What sort of property do you have that the landlord or board allows you to have unescorting tourists coming in and out?
Insider tip: A reasonable place to stay in NYC
First post, very interesting.
Honestly, I doubt any of us have permission. In my case, my super knows, and one of my guests had to call him once. (Co2 alarm went off at 1AM.) I totally hear you on first post. I%26#39;ve been a reader, not a poster.
frznwsalt, if no one has permission what is to stop the landlord from evicting these poor tourists?? It seems more than a bit irresponsible to recommend an option that you know is not on the up and up in most buildings.
If you had used TA to plan your own vacations, this would not be your first couple of posts.
Hey! Well, again, in my case, I think I see my landlord once every two or three years, but that would probably be different in a doorman building. A recent issue of NY Magazine mentioned the practice (but not a particular service.) Another I know of is Urban Ventures. It%26#39;s possible people have had bad experiences. (As far as I know, only one of mine did: It was winter, and heat didn%26#39;t go on.) Just wanted to mention it as an option.
I have never met my landlord (I don%26#39;t think I am in the minority in this as you mainly go through a broker) that doesn%26#39;t mean that I can rent my apartment to anyone for short term stays. What does your lease say, do your neighbors appreciate having random people coming in and out of their building?
