First of all, thank you everyone for all your help in planning the trip. My husband and I arrived on Tuesday afternoon. We stayed at the Hudson Hotel. Great location and I felt completely safe walking to and from there to the sights. The hotel lobby is awesome and the hotels elevator music rocks!! The staff were very nice and helpful. The hotel rooms were so small that we just laughed every time we entered!! If you are traveling alone I recommend staying there but otherwise no. There is a very small closet and no chest of drawers. The bathroom is equally small with a see through glass wall. We didn%26#39;t eat at the hotel so I can%26#39;t remark on the food. Our room was very dusty. The bedding was nice as well as the supplied shampoo etc.
We decided to try to buy Broadway tickets for our first night so we headed to the discount ticket booth around 2p.m. On our way we were approached by a man wearing a Late Show jacket and asked us if we would like to see the David Letterman show in 30 minutes. We had tickets for the next day, but decided to go anyway. I answered the trivia question and we practically ran to get there by 3p.m. We handed the girl our paper and she looked at our drivers license and noticed that we were from her home state and she started talking to us and asked me several questions about the show. I could tell that she was feeling us out for something. As she handed us our tickets she put an extra blue sticker on it and pointed us to another line. There the man told us we had been given special tickets and to be in a certain spot in 15 minutes. We wasted time in the gift shop buying tshirt and then returned to the identified spot. They then took us into the theater and told us that our enthusiasm got us tickets for the front rows! Yeah!! They went over the behavior expectations and how important our clapping would be. We ended up in the second row right in the middle of the stage. I must say that Dave looks awesome. He looks so much younger and healthier in person. The show was awesome. It was really fun to see how it all works. Walking back to the hotel we ate at ';Patsys';. It was good, but not fantastic. However, their cheese cake was the best I have ever had.
Wednesday we got up and I made my husband go with me to check out the Hello Deli next to Letterman. I%26#39;m a big Rupert fan! We had great fried egg sandwiches that were huge and cheap! He was very nice! My husband then had to work and I was scheduled for a tour with my Big Apple Greeter Barbara. I can%26#39;t say enough about how fabulous this program is. She met me at my hotel and then took me on a tour of the Chelsea neighborhood including the market, several art studios and the Empire diner. She was delightful and answered all of my questions about life in NYC. She even took me back to the hotel. This was one of my favorite parts of the trip. I then went to the matinee performance of the Little Mermaid. It was cute but not nearly as good as Lion King. Families will still enjoy it though. That night we went to see 39 Steps a remake of a Alfred Hitchcock movie. It was amazing. I recommend seeing it. We ate a quick bite across the street at the Chipoltee Grill. It was quick and good tacos!
Thursday was raining hard and I had to wait 30 minutes to get a taxi from the hotel. I went to the NBC studio and took a tour. I enjoyed seeing Brian%26#39;s desk, SNL studio, and Cohnen%26#39;s studio. I met my husband and we headed to Canal Street for some shopping. We wandered into Little Italy and ate at Casa Bella%26#39;s at 127 Mulberry St.. It was the best lasagna I have ever had in my life. We shopped awhile then decided to head back. We tried to go to the St. of Liberty but the line was too long. Once back at the hotel we cleaned up and decided to go see Xanadu. We ate at Sardi%26#39;s for dinner. It was good but not great. Xanadu was fabulous. We laughed out loud through out. I can%26#39;t recommend this play enough. My husband is still singing the songs!!!
I have to say that I had a wonderful trip. Everyone was very nice and helpful. The Time Square area was fun and very clean. I also love how small the theaters are. There are no bad seats!! If anyone has any questions just ask.
we're back and it was awesomeWhat fun, glad you had such a nice time. I can recommend Xanadu as well, it is a fun evening at the theatre.
we're back and it was awesomeBrevin: I love your enthusiasm for NYC! Sounds like a great trip. I, too, love Casa la Bella on Mulberry. Little Italy gets a very bad rap by many but there are certain moments of greatness in many of the restaurants found there. I%26#39;m glad the lasagne provided you with one such moment!
Sounds like you will be planning another trip to the Big Apple in the near future. NYC does that. It grabs hold of you and won%26#39;t let go! Ahh, such fun to be in its grasp! Moms
