Lodgings for single gal in NYC

I usually post in the London forum, but since the summer airfare to London is so expensive and the dollars continues to tank, I%26#39;ve decided a long weekend trip to NYC is the next best thing.

Tenetively, I%26#39;m planning for July date and would like to spend no more than $200/night if possible for lodgings. Last Xmas was my first NYC trip w/my family, but we splurged and stayed at the Marriot on Times Square. I%26#39;d like to stay in a less crowdedarea of Manhatten. I%26#39;m not as knowledgeable about areas in Manhatten and need some suggestions.

Also, has anyone took the Bolt bus from DC to NY? How is it?

I%26#39;ve traveled extensively in London by myself so I feel pretty street savy there but need some tips for NYC.

Thanks!

For a single person for a long weekend either try Priceline or would look on quikbook.com and see if there are any deals at 6 Columbus. That hotel has a pod room that%26#39;s tiny but adequate for 1 and it%26#39;s a cool trendy hotel in a good midtown location near Central Park. Frequent poster cricri7, a woman who visits often, sometimes on her own, has stayed there and liked it a lot. Her trip reports can be found in the fAQ section under solo traveler trip reports.

If you want to try Priceline, the Hudson is a 3* hotel in upper midtown that%26#39;s often won for $120-175/night, again small rooms but cool hotel. If you can come over the 4th of July weekend, you may find cheaper hotel prices.

If you really want to stay in a more residential area the upper west side is popular. A place like Park 79 might work (just a heads up, some of their rooms have shared bathrooms). Or stay in the village.
