places to dine alone?

Does anyone know any good place for alone dining? I will make my first visit to NYC for business in mid June and I will stay at the Sofitel in midtown. I would appreciate if anyone has any suggestions of good restaurants where it does not feel odd to dine alone.

I think you can dine alone anywhere in New York and not look strange. There are many solo diners.

places to dine alone?

Yes, you can dine pretty much any place solo. Many places have a bar where you can be served a meal if that makes you feel more comfortable.

It is common place to see people eating alone. Many solo diners feel more comfortable eating at the bar (so they can chat with the bartender if he%26#39;s not busy). Here are just 2 of MANY previous posts on the subject

Right on the same block as the Sofitel is DB Bistro Moderne, a very good French restaurant.

Good thread from chowhound on the subject.

I am in NYC right now travelling alone. I decide what type of food I%26#39;d like to eat and then find a place. Don%26#39;t feel silly about this . There are so many great places to eat every where. From small cafes to larger places, and lots of solo dinners. You will have a great time!

This is not the first time I have seen this question asked, and I have always thought it a curious one. I frequently dine alone in NYC (where I have lived my whole life), and have never given it a thought. I don%26#39;t mean to sound naive, but are there places in the world where it is thought strange to dine alone? And I do mean that as a serious question...

I have been to NY many times alone and have dined at many places, I don%26#39;t starve myself because I don%26#39;t have anyone to eat with, and have always enjoyed myself. You meet more people when you are alone. I eat at the bar and always end up talking with someone. I had dinner at some of the following places and had a nice time:

Casa mono, Otto, Centro vinoteca, Artisanal, Bar Boulud, Campanile, Nino%26#39;s of Tuscany, Les Halles to name a few. No one notices if you are alone in New York. Maybe in a small town people talk about you when you are alone in a restaurant, but in a big town no ones cares! Don%26#39;t be self conscious and go anywhere you want to.

GWB, I think because of (from what I%26#39;ve heard) you have smaller kitchens, quite often live alone and have hectic lifestyles then it can often be quicker and easier to dine out whereas here at least we are more likely to cook every day and only eat in restaurants (this is excluding fast food and cafes) when it is an event. By even I mean special occasion or an excuse for a get together and in that situation you would look odd dining alone.

Does that make sense?

One is the loneliest number that you%26#39;ll ever do

Two can be as bad as one

It%26#39;s the loneliest number since the number one
