unique clothing/jewelery shops in lower Manhattan

I usually check out Time-out and New York magazine listings once I get to NYC to see their recent recommendations, but I was curious to see if anyone has specific recommendations for favourite places to find unique, locally made jewellery and/or clothing that would be fairly affordable (dresses under $400, shirts/blouses/sweaters/pants under $300, silver/semi-precious stone/crystal jewellery under $250, etc.) Are there any artisan coops running shops?

I%26#39;d especially be interested in shops in Nolita, LES, the East Village, etc. Or anywhere else in lower Manhattan that you think is worth a special trip.

Thanks for any of your recs:)

FWIW:

Although ';lower'; is a relative term, and the neighborhoods you mention are definitely Downtown, I don%26#39;t think most people would consider that ';Lower Manhattan';.

To me that term really refers to the Wall Street area - which would include Century 21 and the shops at the South Street Seaport. But I get the feeling that%26#39;s not the kind of stuff you%26#39;re looking for.

Sorry to be such a stickler - I%26#39;m sure that you%26#39;ll get plenty of great suggestions.

Thanks for correcting me %26amp; being a stickler;) I rather be corrected on TA than in NY. I always had thought of anything south of 14th as lower Manhattan.

I wish there was a way to edit posts on here;)

Yeah, because NYC is so densely developed and territorial, nabe names are a whole lingo. I%26#39;d say anything south of 14th St. is ';downtown'; and anything around City Hall or Wall Street is the sub-section of ';lower Manahttan.'; But even the non-profits representing the area don%26#39;t agree!! Look at the names of these websites!

But we digress...

Shopping: You%26#39;ll have plenty of choices. There are some shopping maps linked in the FAQ ';sticky'; at the top of this forum. Check those out.

Dailycandy.com is another great website for shoppers.

I%26#39;d also peruse these Brooklyn websties:

www.billburg.com

www.brooklynnow.com

edgeny.com

is in Noho and has stuff from young designers. These places are similar

Thanks for the great links %26amp; suggestions, nywhiz %26amp; queensboulevard;)

Edgenyc and the marketnyc are exactly the type of shops I was hoping to hear about.
