way ahead of myself! need suggestions (hotel)

hi everyone, some if you may remember me posting here last year as newyorkcityvirgin. i decided that name is not appropriate any more after our amazing vist in december and i am back looking for help planning my next visit in dec 09.

i know this is AGES away but im also aware of the merits of forward planning in getting the best choice of rates and hotels.

we will be spending christmas 09 in orlando and hubby has told me if the price is right we may be able to squeeze in a 2 night visit to NY en route.

rough plan would be as follows (gearing everything towards our 8 year old daughter as it will be her first visit)

arrive friday evening (dec 18th)- dinner in the view bar, rockettes radio city music spectacular

saturday(dec 19th) - TOTR, 5th avenue, FAO Schwarz, central park including ice skating and zoo, dinner in the burger joint le parker meridien, ny waterway harbour lights cruise that evening (to see lady liberty)

sunday(dec 20th) - AMNH in the morning and fly to orlando that evening

last time we stayed in radio city apartments but didnt have great experience. however the location was absolutely fantastic.

can anyone recommend somewhere for us to stay? would it be very unrealistic to think we could do 2 nights for $500? clean and basic suits is all we ask for but as we are confining our sight seeing this time to one fairly compact area we plan to walk everywhere and would hope to get something close to RCA.

if we get somewhere reasonable we may even stretch to a third night to accomodate a broadway show and ellis island

thanks for your help!

The Beekman Tower hotel has a 1 bedrom suite (your daughter would sleep on a sofabed in the living room) for $219/night plus tax on quikbook.com for the dates you mentioned. It%26#39;s totally cancelable and doesn%26#39;t require prepayment. I would book that ASAP and then see if you can find anything you like better.

It%26#39;s not as central as the RCA but still in midtown and I think nicer.

thanks for that. i tried the site you mention but it tells me there is no availability for those dates. it does look like a nice hotel though. in some ways im tempted to rebook RCA because of its convenience. i remember it being sooo cold in december and it would mean minimal walking to and from the places we want to see for my daughter if the weather is bad

whiz, tinkershell is looking to visit in December of 2009; I think perhaps you looked at rates for December of 2008.

tinkershell, there is simply no way of knowing if your budget will work for a visit that is 18 months away. Since taxes and fees add 15% to a room%26#39;s cost, to do two nights for $500, you are actually looking for a room rate of just under $220 a night. Just as a means of comparison, the average room currently goes for $300 (or more) a night.

Keep looking; it sounds like quite a trip!

Rocco%26#39;s right!!!! (both in my not seeing the year and in trying to determine what prices will be that far in advance).

whiz, will you please tell my wife? She just never seems to get that!

thanks guys, am probably getting a bit over excited trying to budget this early! rca are showing room rates up to next august of $240 which will prob tempt me back. the wait is going to be a killer!!

tinkershell, just keep in mind, August in New York is very hot and humid, not the most popular vacation time. December, on the other hand, is quite popular. So your $240 rate in August could well be closer to $300 (or beyond) for December.
