We are staying at NYAC with three kids age 16, 24, and 10. They are reciprocal with our home club.. What should I expect? Stiff on dress code? Stuffy? How are the rooms? Rate was $420 for largest room they had- 2 queens and a pull out sofa suite.

New York Athletic Club- accomodations
Thanks for the link... I had already read these- was looking for something a little more current. I get the general idea though... The dress code will be a challenge for 16 and 14 year old girls who live in denim and flip flops!
I%26#39;ve never stayed there as a guest, but my former company used to host events there. I was impressed that there is a dedicated elevator so that guests can travel between between there rooms and the pool (or maybe sauna) in Bathrobes!
I seem to recall that ties are required for gentlemen to drink at the bar...or guys in general.
Thanks... I have heard from our home club that there is a back elevator on 7th street to use if you are in casual attire ( jeans, sandals, etc). ?
We make our kids dress up for theatre and dinners, but daytime excursions should be in comfort!
Flip-flops are a terrible idea in New York anyway. You will be doing considerably more walking here than you do at home, and flip flops on hard concrete for hours on end are a good way to get sore feet and cranky, unhappy kids. In addition, who wants to see filthy, blackened feet (which are the inevitable consequence of walking around New York all day in flip flops) being displayed publicly?
GWB is right regarding flipflops. Also, did you know that podiatrists say that the majority of foot injuries they tend to happened to people who were wearing flipflops at the time? I have nothing against flipflops--I wear them around the house. However, they are not good when it comes to taking long walks.
I would never have filthy exposed feet... I may be from Oregon, but I do travel with style and class. I know my Prada shoes will be fine for your dirty sidewalks!
As a west coast ';er'; we are much more casual in our dress. My husband will pack a blazer but will I be OK in designer denim and dressy top for evening? Thinking city shorts or skirts for daytime and maybe a dress for theatre.
LoGirl,
You%26#39;re missing GWB%26#39;s point. I don%26#39;t believe he was questioning your hygiene. The fact is that your feet would rapidly become blackened and dirty within an hour of walking on ';The Sidewalks of New York';.
There are still many more shoeshine places in NYC than you%26#39;d find in other cities. But I don%26#39;t know of many places you can stop in for a quick foot-washing.
LOGirl, perhaps you indeed ';would never have filthy exposed feet';. However, did you or did you not describe your daughters as ';16 and 14 year old girls who live in denim and flip flops';?
I didn%26#39;t invent the fact that you claimed your daughters live in flip flops, and I cannot imagine now why you would suggest that flip-flops do not show the wearer%26#39;s feet (I mean, is there some really unusual meaning for the term ';flip flops'; in Oregon? For example, in Oregon, and Oregon only, is ';flip flop'; a synonym for ';hiking boot';?)
If your daughters wear what all the rest of the world means by ';flip flops'; walking around all day in New York City, at the end of the day, even if their feet are not sore (which itself will be unlikely) your daughters will have filthy and blackened feet for all the world to see, and it will not be an attractive sight.
